Candidate or Beggar?

Chew a bitter Kola
For as bitter as the truth is
It is healthy for the soul
Are you a candidate or a beggar
Are you campaigning or plotting
Whose side are you on
When results are out
Will you not decamp
Or claim neutral to avoid
The backlash of not being a supporter
Of the winning regime

Their words are sweet
Like breast milk in the mouth of a three months old
Reality is true illusion
For how long will you believe
The cooked up all promising manifestos
Are we fools or we wish to be fooled
Ask for democracy amongst students
Our country is not sane so are we?

They will kiss your feet to lead you
And slap you in the face with authority
When they attain their goals
Then like fools we ask
Who are you to tell me to shut up
When I put you where you are today
We close our eyes to reality
To enjoy the unrealistic purgence of madness
At the end of the day
We claim to be fighting for the same cause
Change; change in administration
When in all fairness
We enjoy the game of
Chasing and manipulating
Chasing selfish goals
And manipulating the so-called wise

So cast your votes in the right places
Don’t be swayed by smiles
And empty promises
Empty like an idiot’s mind
