The Award of the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) is a privilege awarded by the Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee as a mark of excellence to members of the legal profession who are in full time legal practice; have distinguished themselves as advocates or academic and have made significant contribution to the development of the legal profession in Nigeria. It is the equivalent of the rank of Queen’s Counsel in the United Kingdom, from which Nigeria adopted the rank.
The conferment is made in accordance with the provisions of the Legal Practitioners Act, by the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee
